Our Heritage

The Canossian Sisters have a foundation in providing health and aged care, care and education services for children and in working with the poor. Canossa Services have been operated by the Canossian Sisters at Oxley for over 40 years providing excellence in a range of health and aged care services. Canossa Residential Services and Canossa Private Hospital at Oxley are recognised and accredited as quality providers of care.

The way in which these services have grown reflect the Canossian Sisters commitment to service in an environment and organization that respects, promotes and enhances opportunities for the individuals personal, physical and spiritual independence and growth.

Following requests by many who value this commitment and support, and in recognition of the changing requirements of older Queenslanders, the Canossian Sisters have established the Canossa Retirement Village adjacent to the Health and Residential precinct at Oxley. This Village will be an extension of the Sisters caring and supportive ministries to the community of Brisbane. Like all Canossa Services, the Village will continue to be owned, managed and operated by the Canossian Sisters.

Canossa Village

Canossa Village is situated in tranquil surroundings behind the hospital and aged care services overlooking, and accessible to, a large tract of natural bushland. The Village is easily accessible through a separate entrance off Fort Road Oxley.

The Village is close to all major services and is 20 minutes by car to the CBD. Brisbane City Council buses stop at the front entrance off Seventeen Mile Rocks Road. Buses regularly travel to the City Centre, Oxley Railway Station and Shopping Centre and the Indooroopilly and Mt Ommaney Shopping Centres. Canossa Village is also in close proximity to a range of community and recreational activities, sporting and social clubs.

Canossa Village has the unique advantage of having a range of health services on site reflecting the commitment to total service. Medical Centre services are supplied by tenancy arrangement and may vary over time. Current services include visiting General Practitioner, script drop in pharmacy service and plain film x-ray. Nursing and therapy as well as admission to a service provided by Canossa Private Hospital are available on a fee for service basis and may be covered by private health insurance.

Village occupants also have the option to make application for hostel and nursing home accommodation.

Canossa Village provides 2 accommodation options – Independent Living Units and Serviced Apartments.

Independent Living Units

The Village provides a range of 2 and 3 bed independent living units in single and multiple story buildings. Prices are dependent upon unit sizes, fittings and facilities provided. Additional options such as partial or full air-conditioning of units are available.

All individual units have single level access. Set in landscaped gardens with their own courtyards, all units have northerly aspects with views to native bushland.

Residents are encouraged to continue their independent lifestyle maintaining their family, social and professional interests and activities within a supportive organization. They have access to all social, recreational, health and care facilities available on site. Onsite Chapel and Prayer Rooms are available to all and Pastoral and Clergy support is available for a wide range of denominations

Living at Canossa Village provides residents with the opportunity to access a range of service options.

Canossa Services Options

Independent Living Units

Self contained for those independent in all daily activities seeking a supportive environment for continuation of their lifestyle. 24-hour emergency call service provided.

Living Units with assistance

Option for provision to occupants in Independent Living Units for a choice of services as required depending upon individual needs. These include meals, weekly cleaning, heavy laundry service and personal laundry service. 24-hour emergency call service provided.

Serviced Apartments

Units have a kitchenette, but no cooking facilities. All meals are provided and weekly assistance is given with heavy laundry and unit cleaning. 24-hour emergency call service provided.
